IZONE Polaroids
This body of work is about repetition, light and color. The circular patterns on the backing paper of the Polaroid I-zone film are incorporated into a relationship with camera images of related patterns made from light. Together they combine a decorative marketing device designed to provide a photographic novelty with the primary function of the photographic medium - a record of light. This series is presented in three different ways. First are the Polariod I-zone originals The original photographs and backing paper are encapsulated in wooden boxes and hung from a line like a darkroom negative. The background of hand painted and modified lead flashing echoes the patterns of the original and provides a spacial backing. The size of each piece is 12 and 1/2” x 6 and 1/4”. Second are the 8” x 32” enlargements These enlarged edition prints contrasts the miniature scale of the originals. This gives the prints a character and perspective that goes beyond polariod’s original intention creating a new entity. Third are the 16” x 16” digital pieces These digital arrangements take the photographic portion of the originals and through sizing and duplication use patterns to compliment and repeat the circular nature captured by the camera. Note: Polariod no longer makes these cameras or the film, so this work has become a piece of our photo-cultures history as well as fine art.
